-Successfully launched collaboration with the National Gugak Orchestra
The Mariana Tourism Board, based in the Northern Mariana Islands with Saipan as its capital and a popular destination among Korean travelers, has launched a promotional campaign to attract more visitors from Korea.
As part of this campaign, on May 11, the National Orchestra of Korea performed a rendition of the popular Mariana song “Marianas Way” in collaboration with the Mariana Tourism Board during the “Noon Concert” at the National Theater of Korea’s Haeorum Theater in Jangchung-dong.
Well-known emcee Lee Geum-hee introduced the performance, mentioning that May is a month filled with allure and harmony and that a trip to the beautiful Saipan must be included in such allure. She also introduced the orchestra’s interpretation of “Marianas Way” as a landscape with the ocean, reinterpreted to suit the emotional sensibilities of Koreans.
The “Noon Concert” is a long-running performance at the National Theater of Korea that has been held for 15 years since 2009. It features a diverse selection of music genres performed by various musicians, including Korean traditional music, and is known to provide a rich and enjoyable experience for audiences thanks to Lee Geum-hee’s warm and friendly commentary.
Through its collaboration with the National Theater of Korea, the Mariana Tourism Board sought to promote cultural and travel experiences during the most beautiful season for travel by means of music. The National Orchestra of Korea’s beautiful rendition of the Mariana song also helped to promote the Northern Mariana Islands as a travel destination.
The Northern Mariana Islands, centered around Saipan, is one of the most beloved vacation spots among Korean travelers. It is a melting pot of over 20 ethnicities, including Chamorro and Carolinian natives and Koreans, with a unique culture that blends many stories. In June, the Mariana Food Festival, the largest local festival, will be held every Saturday.
