The center, backed by the Indian government’s 4 trillion won investment, aims to attract international conferences, exhibitions, and trade fairs while strengthening economic cooperation between South Korea and India.

The India International Convention and Expo Centre:
The IICC, a key project of the Indian government, will serve as a crucial hub for the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry. Its vast size, approximately 6.25 times larger than COEX, positions it as a premier venue for hosting large-scale events. With its construction cost estimated at 4 trillion won, the IICC is expected to draw significant tourist footfall and contribute to the growth of the exhibition industry in India.
KINTEX’s Operational Rights:

The operational partnership between KINTEX and India presents an opportunity for domestic small and medium-sized enterprises to participate in international trade exhibitions and expand their global reach.

Strengthening Economic Cooperation:
The IICC’s opening signifies a new chapter in economic cooperation between South Korea, particularly Gyeonggi Province, and India. Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province expressed his hopes for further collaboration and synergy between KINTEX in South Korea and the IICC in India. Governor Kim highlighted India’s strategic importance as a trade partner and stressed the potential for increased exports, investments, and personnel exchanges facilitated by the exhibition industry.
Impacts and Opportunities:
The IICC’s inauguration is expected to attract global companies considering investments in India, providing a platform for domestic businesses to connect with potential investors. By hosting international conferences and trade exhibitions, the center will contribute to the growth of Indian industries, including medical, energy, batteries, bio, construction, home appliances, entertainment, and beauty. The IICC’s immense scale and strategic location in India make it a promising venue for promoting trade and fostering the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Conclusion:
The upcoming opening of the India International Convention and Expo Centre heralds a significant milestone for the MICE industry in Southwest Asia. South Korea’s KINTEX, as the center’s operator, brings its expertise and experience to the table, aiming to enhance economic cooperation and facilitate global engagement. With its expansive exhibition space and strategic location, the IICC is poised to attract international events, bolster trade, and foster the growth of Indian businesses.

Unveiling Seoul’s Enigmatic Heights: Namsan Mountain

As you wander through the vibrant streets of Seoul, your gaze is captivated by the regal silhouette of Namsan Mountain. Standing proudly amidst the bustling city, this majestic peak, known as “South Mountain” in Korean, holds within its embrace a tapestry of history and natural beauty.

When Seoul was founded at the end of the 14th Century, Namsan Mountain dominated the southern portion of the city. Today, the city has grown to both banks of the Han River, and Namsan remains a central landmark. Its upper parts have been transformed into a city park called Namsan Park, where automotive traffic is restricted, making it an ideal escape from the urban bustle.

To reach the park, you have several options. One is to embark on a leisurely walk, taking roads leading up Namsan from Myeong-dong, Chungmuro, or Itaewon. While a scenic route, it may prove challenging for some due to the difficult city streets and the long ascent up the mountain.

Another option is to hop on the Namsan Sunhwan Shuttle bus, which leaves every 15 to 20 minutes from nearby subway stations. With cash or a metro card, you can reach the top of Namsan for a nominal fare. The shuttles run from 10:00 AM until 11:00 PM and provide a convenient and affordable way to access the park.

For a touch of nostalgia, the Namsan Cable Car offers a charming experience. Built in 1962, it gracefully ascends from the Hoehyeon-dong platform to the Yejang-dong platform near the base of N Seoul Tower. From Myeong-dong station, you can easily reach the cable car platform. A round trip on the cable car offers not only convenience but also a delightful perspective of the city below.

Once you arrive at Namsan Park, a world of enchantment unfolds. The park boasts a botanical garden, a library, a National Theater, and the captivating Namsangol Hanok Village—an immersive cultural village showcasing traditional Korean architecture. These attractions are worth exploring if you have the time, offering glimpses into Korea’s rich heritage.

Yet, the true allure of Namsan lies in the view it presents—an awe-inspiring panorama of Seoul. To behold the city in all its splendor, make your way to the observation deck of N Seoul Tower. Standing at a staggering height of 777 feet, the tower offers a vantage point like no other. As you gaze upon Seoul’s cityscape, ancient palaces harmonize with modern skyscrapers, weaving a story of dynamic growth and timeless traditions.

As day surrenders to twilight, the city’s lights ignite, painting the night sky with a symphony of colors. It’s a moment to cherish, a testament to Seoul’s vibrant spirit that thrives both day and night. The N Seoul Tower stands as a beacon, guiding the city’s aspirations and dreams.

While N Seoul Tower claims its place as the crown jewel atop Namsan, the mountain itself holds its own enigmatic treasures. The Joseon-era smoke signaling devices, located near the tower, whisper tales of Seoul’s past. These ancient artifacts once served as the city’s vigilant eyes, safeguarding it from potential threats. Bilingual signs nearby unravel the secrets of their operation, transporting visitors back in time to an era of watchful eyes and vigilant hearts.

As you descend from Namsan, gratitude fills your heart—for the memories etched in your soul, for the panoramic vistas that took your breath away, for the city that unfolded its treasures before your eyes. Seoul and Namsan Mountain, intertwined in their majesty, beckon travelers to embrace their wonders and embark on a journey of discovery.

Korea Airports Corporation Surpasses 5 Million International Passengers

View of the International Passenger Terminal at Gimpo International Airport

Korea Airports Corporation, under the leadership of CEO Yoon Hyung-joong, has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 5 million passengers traveling on international routes across its seven major international airports nationwide (Gimpo, Gimhae, Jeju, Cheongju, Daegu, Muan, and Yangyang International Airports).

As of June 24th, the total number of international passengers for the first half of this year has exceeded 5.02 million, surpassing the annual figure of 1.78 million passengers in 2022. This remarkable recovery represents a significant milestone, as it has now reached 50% of the passenger volume recorded in the first half of 2019, before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Korea Airports Corporation has been actively engaged in expedited discussions with domestic airlines, the travel industry, and overseas airport operators to facilitate the prompt resumption of international flights. They have proactively proposed measures to ease immigration procedures for incoming passengers while also focusing on other preemptive efforts.

With an ambitious goal to increase the projected number of international passengers from 10.8 million to 13 million this year, the corporation has allocated 5.2 billion KRW to attract foreign tourists and has developed support programs for new and expanded airlines as well as travel agencies. Notably, they have successfully secured five new international routes at Cheongju, Gimhae, and Jeju Airports.

Furthermore, the corporation has conducted relay discussions with airport operators in Japan and China to boost international demand. In addition, working groups have been established, local attraction seminars for overseas travel agencies have been organized, and airport promotional marketing activities have been carried out at “World Routes,” the world’s largest airline route development conference. These efforts are aimed at strengthening regional airports during these critical times.

In a strategic partnership with the global leisure platform company “Yanolja,” Korea Airports Corporation is prioritizing the attraction of inbound passengers to regional airports. Recently, Interpark Triple, a subsidiary of Yanolja, presented a blueprint to usher in the era of attracting 50 million inbound tourists. Korea Airports Corporation and Yanolja have agreed to jointly develop travel products in collaboration with regional international airports such as Yangyang, Muan, and Cheongju. This collaboration aims to achieve a significant breakthrough in attracting inbound passengers to regional airports by leveraging Yanolja’s global network and incorporating K-contents, along with the expertise of Interpark Triple in developing unique tourism products.

Moreover, Korea Airports Corporation has taken urgent measures to revitalize Yangyang International Airport, which has been facing challenges due to the operational difficulties of its main airline. An emergency special task force has been established to conduct daily situation checks and focus on marketing activities to restore convenience for local residents.

In recent months, the corporation has actively conducted airline route attraction activities, targeting local travel agencies and airlines, at international tourism fairs held in Taiwan. Additionally, discussions are currently underway with airlines to launch the Gimpo-Yangyang route in July, catering to leisure travelers, including surfers, who seek dedicated surfing beaches.

Towards the end of this month, China travel agencies will be invited, and efforts will be made to promote local tourism resources in collaboration with K-culture, which has gained attention as a filming location for dramas and entertainment programs. Collaborative efforts are also underway to attract travel agencies specializing in Yangyang Airport and to secure chartered flights for tourist groups.

While it is projected that international flights will be fully restored to the levels of 2019 by the end of this year, the passenger recovery rate until May indicates that the recovery rate for Southeast Asia stands at 71.2%, Japan at 62%, while China routes remain at 23%. Therefore, activating Chinese group tourism to Korea is crucial for achieving the set target.

Yoon Hyung-joong, CEO of Korea Airports Corporation, expressed his commitment, saying, “In order to surpass the demand before the COVID-19 pandemic and achieve ‘Beyond 2019,’ we will dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly to attracting visitors to Korea and revitalizing regional airports. We will actively cooperate with domestic and international airlines, travel agencies, and overseas airport authorities.”
